Annual Report
 

Atrium Innovations is a globally recognized leader in the innovation, formulation, manufacture and marketing of science-based natural health products recognized by healthcare professionals.
Atrium was seeking an innovative financial reporting instrument that would set the company apart in the market. MaisonBrison developed an annual report in the form of a folder with pocket, reusable for purposes other than financial, together with an electronic-paper version for the company’s website.

The challenge
An annual report is a printed document containing all information necessary for annual reporting to shareholders (messages from senior officers, management’s discussion and analysis, financial statements). The document is fairly time-consuming and costly to produce. It also has a fairly limited shelf life (3 to 6 months), normally ending with the announcement of first-quarter results. Atrium was looking for a solution that would maximize their investment by allowing reuse of the marketing elements of the annual report. They also sought a solution that would set them apart from their competitors and project their image as innovators.

The solution
The proposed solution was an annual report in the form of a folder with pocket, comprising:
Colour-printed management and nonfinancial messages, bound in the folder;

Management’s discussion and analysis and financial statements in a separate black-and-white document, fitting into the folder pocket;

A slot in the folder for insertion of a business card.

Also developed was a web microsite version of the report using electronic paper for the management discussion and analysis and financial statements. The microsite is fully integrated with the investor relations section of the company website.

Results
Substantial savings were realized because the folder kit is used year-round, not only for financial reporting purposes but by all members of the management team. The folder can hold an investor data sheet or news releases and can even serve as a media kit. The online version is appreciated by people who work mainly with the web. It allows word searches, facilitates the user’s tasks and contributes to Atrium Innovations’ environmental commitment by eliminating paper.
